I create furniture that has motion, direction, and life. Distinct, one-of-a-kind furniture forms emphasizing a balance between organic and elegant.
Furniture must have personality. It must be visually stimulating from any direction. Timeless functional forms built with imagination, curiosity, common sense, and a deep respect for the material.
I've been called an unrepentive modernist because I strip away all ornamentation, all that is unnecessary. I strive for simplicity.
The truth is that I'm fascinated by how complex simplicity really is. Hours are spent staring at a seemingly simple piece of wood- studying the grain in search of its character. I believe wood has a soul and a voice. A board already knows what it wants to be; it just needs someone with the desire, patience and a skilled pair of hands to bring it back to life.
Many inspirations come from the figure of the wood itself. From the straight grains of lyputs to the wandering motions found in Claro walnut. For me, there is nothing more gratifying than allowing the figure of a board to dictate its design. The wood is my teacher, I am the student. It is my duty to listen and learn.
